How To Clean Out Juul Pods

JUUL CLEANING 101

Today I will explain how to clean the JUUL.

TAKE ME TO THE GUIDE. I don't need an intro!

Let's face it, the JUUL is pretty great (some would even say perfect)and can quickly become one of our most frequently used devices.

With heavy use comes heavy wear and tear, and build up of some gnarly stuff.

Routine cleaning is a necessity to ensure the longevity of our JUUL batteries.

This aspect of the JUUL experience is often overlooked and that is something I hope to remedy with this in-depth guide.

So without further adieu, let's dive in.

Why Bother?

You may be thinking: "Why waste my time cleaning the JUUL if there are no downsides to letting it get dirty?"

Well, first of all, that's a dangerous (andGROSS) mindset to live by.

Just like anything else in life, regular cleaning is required to maintain your JUUL's efficiency.(as well as saving you time and money long-term)

JUUL Pods leaking into the battery will be the primary reason for cleaning.

If left untreated this tendency for pods to leak can build up and cause problems ranging from simple functionality issues to the full-blown death of your JUUL.

The second reason we may need to clean our JUULs is caused by the magnetic charging port located on the bottom.

You probably don't think about it too often, but that device you are holding (and all the metal ever created) used to be rocks.  Good 'ol earth.

This means that many tiny particles ofdust and dirt will be magnetically attracted to the JUUL's charging port.

So every time you drop your JUUL these particles will slowly build up on the metal surface and can eventually result in difficulty when trying to recharge the battery.

"OK, OK. I GET IT.  But I still don't know HOW to clean the JUUL!

Alright alright! let's get into the techniques.

Cleaning the JUUL: A Step by Step Guide (With Pictures!)

Materials Required:

  • Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
  • Cotton swabs (Q-Tips)
  • Paper towels
  • Narrowly pointed object (Like these great electronics tweezers. Very handy!)
  • Some patience (Don't worry, I struggle with this one too.)

How to Clean the JUUL Cleaning Materials

1.) Dry Cleaning

This is usually the only cleaning I perform on my JUUL.  If done even fairly regularly (e.g. once a month) then this very well could be the only step we need to perform.

A.)  Remove JUUL Pod if present and get your Q-tips/paper towels ready.

With a Q-tip or paper towel wipe up any excess liquid that is visible in the JUUL Pod slot:

B.)  Use the narrowly pointed object to remove buildup.

Dirt, grime, and congealed JUUL juice can sometimes build up around the bottom edges of the opening where the rubber meets the outer metal body.  The narrow tool (in my case tweezers) can be used to remove this buildup.

C.)  Drain the metal connection pins.

The little metal pins that attach to the JUUL Pod are spring loaded (as are the pins on the USB charger).  This ensures a consistent connection to each JUUL Pod inserted, but also produces openings while the pins are pressed in, allowing juice to flow into the internal mechanisms of the battery.

This is the primary cause of JUUL functionality issues and this may be the most important step of this entire guide.

a.)  Invert the JUUL battery, and then use a Q-tip or a paper towel tightly stuffed into the opening to compress the pins and allow any juice inside to be absorbed.

b.)After a couple of seconds, remove the Q-tip or paper towel and see if it has absorbed any juice from the pins.

c.)Repeat stepsa.andb.above until no more juice is absorbed from the pins.

2.)  Alcohol Cleaning

As stated above,  this cleaning method can beOPTIONAL.I personally have never used anything other than Q-tips and paper towels to clean my JUUL.

This cleaning method is associated with some minor risks, but using the proper technique as outlined below should avoid these problems.

I recommend this more vigorous cleaning method to those who have a large amount of solidified vape juice built up around the bottom of the JUUL opening.  In these cases the alcohol can help to break down the sticky buildup, making it easier to wipe away.

A.)  Remove JUUL Pod if present and prepare your Q-tip/paper towel and rubbing alcohol.

Soak one end of the Q-tip or one corner of the paper towel in rubbing alcohol and then squeeze out the excess, leaving the cleaning tool slightly damp.

B.)  Invert the JUUL battery and GENTLY begin cleaning AROUND the metal connection pins.

Carefully wipe around the metal pins whileAVOIDINGcompressing them.  If the pins are not compressed then there is very little chance of alcohol leaking into the device.

Keeping the JUUL inverted during this step allows gravity to help us keep alcohol out of the internals of our battery in the case of accidentally compressing the pins.

C.)  Wipe up the remaining alcohol and grime with the dry end of the Q-tip/paper towel.

Once most of the residue has been removed or softened, flip the Q-tip to the dry side or use a dry piece of paper towel to absorb and remove any remaining dirt or moisture, once again taking care to not compress the pins.

The JUUL's pod opening should now be nice and clean.

D.)  Check to see if the charging port (on the bottom) is in need of cleaning.

If the magnetic charging area on the bottom of your JUUL has built up some grime, now is the perfect chance to give it a quick cleaning.

Simply wipe the area with alcohol until dirt is loosened and then wipe up the remaining residue.

3.)  Disassembly Cleaning (HIGHLY RISKY)

In extreme cases, such as the JUUL battery not charging or responding to pod insertion, the only chance we have to save our JUUL is to perform high-risk surgery; we must disassemble its main components and attempt to clean them.

Disassembly is a tedious and dangerous operation, with the potential to introduce a plethora of unforeseen side-effects and conditions to our JUULs.

I learned all about this stuff the hard way because Ineglectedmy basic cleaning responsibilities for too long, resulting in my JUUL ceasing all functionality.

That being said, this procedure is only recommended to those who are in a similar position (and have attempted the cleaning methods above first) in which their JUUL has completely stopped working.

At this point, you have two decisions, call it and make the necessary preparations for a JUUneral, or perform the high-risk disassembly surgery.

Because this method is rarely required, I've decided to move this part of the guide to its own post here.

Important Reminders

I don't want to repeat myself a million times, however, I'd like to quickly list the main points of cleaning the JUUL here one more time:

  • Dry cleaning, performed regularly, is usually all you need to keep your JUUL vaping smoothly.
  • Using rubbing alcohol for cleaning carries some SLIGHT risks in the event that it seeps into your JUUL.
  • Disassembling the JUUL is HIGHLY RISKY and only recommended as a last resort option.

There. I think you get the point.

A Clean JUUL is a Happy JUUL

Keeping your JUUL clean is one of the easiest things you can do to avoid all kinds of malfunctions.

At almost 1500 words, this is the most in-depth guide on how to clean the JUUL ever written.

So if you've made it this far, congrats! You now know much more about JUUL maintenance than the average user!

Have a gunk-free day of vaping dear JUULers, we'll see you soon.
